прил.Все значения многозначного русского прилагательного современный связаны с временной характеристикой, но включают очень разное отношение к этой характеристике, вследствие чего русское прилагательное используется в очень разных ситуациях. В английском языке эти разные отношения передаются разными словами, которые связаны с разными ситуациями.1. modern — современный (отвечающий времени, отличающийся от того, что было раньше): modem life — современный образ жизни; modem power stations — современные электростанции/новые электростанции; by modem standards — по современным нормам2. new — новый (до сих пор неизвестный, ранее не существовавший): a new job — новая работа (вместо той, что была); new cities — новые юрода (таких раньше не было)3. up-to-date — новый, современный ( отвечающий современным требованиям): up-to-date machinery — современное оборудование/новое оборудование; up-to-date designs — современные модели/новые модели4. contemporary — современный (характерный для указанного/данного периода времени): contemporary writers — писатели-современники/современные писатели; contemporary music — современная музыка; contemporary society — современное общество5. recent — новый (недавно появившийся, появившийся в недалеком прошлом): his recent book — его новая ( недавно появившаяся) книга; recent photos — недавние фотографии6. current —современный, текущий (описывает то, что типично для данного периода времени, но может скоро исчезнуть или измениться): current terms — сейчас бытующие термины; current events — текущие события7. present-day — современный (распространенный«данный период, но могущий измениться в ближайшем будущем): present-day styles— современные фасоны/современная мода; present-day standards — современные нормы/современные стандарты; present-day way of life — современный образ жизни -
